Bird Cage DIY (Trash to Treasure)

DIY

5 Mar

Welcome back Sparkle Chicks, can you believe this project almost got trashed? Seriously, I picked up this bird cage at Hobby Lobby and it got damaged on the way home. At one point I had actually put it in the bin to go.

I thought, girl what are you doing, we can hide the broken and make it so cute. Super glad, I listened to myself because this sweet little project was the result. this project was created on Facebook live, you can check out that video HERE.

YOU’LL NEED:

  • Faux Bird Cage (Hobby Lobby)
  • Greenery (Hobby Lobby)
  • White Chalk Paint
  • Hot Glue (Get it HERE) & Hot Glue Gun
  • Sanding Block/ Sponge
  • Charger plate or small round tray
  • Clear Coat (Top coat)
  • Bling wrap
  • Paint Brushes
  • Heat Gun (Get it HERE) optional

Let’s Begin

Did you see in the first image how broken and jagged the bottom was? To combat this I wanted to make that broken area disappear.

First I grabbed an old tray I had on hand, and painted the whole thing with white chalky style paint. Next I dried the first coat, with my heat gun, added a second then distressed with my sanding block. Finally I sealed the whole thing up with a top coat.

Grab your white paint and paint your bird cage to match your plate/tray. Next dry with your heat gun and distress with your sanding block.

Grab your bird cage and plate/tray and center them. Next grab your hot glue and adhere them together, press firmly until it is dry.

Start by taking your greenery and wrapping it around your bird cage.

This particular greenery was wired, if yours is not just use hot glue.

You all know the project isn’t complete until I add a little bling somewhere.

Taking some faux diamond ribbon, trim to fit the sizing and adhere with your hot glue.

There you have it friends, a cute quick little project that will brighten up any garden or room. I had a lot of fun creating this Bird Cage DIY with you and cannot wait to create more. Please share your projects you create with me. I love seeing everyone’s take on them!

Your Sparkly Friend,
