Goodwill Makeover

DIY

12 May
Follow along as Kathy turns this Goodwill find into treasure. Upcycle, Goodwill makeover, decoupage, DIY, trash to treasure, home décor

Welcome Sparkle Chicks! have you ever found something at a thrift store you knew had potential to be awesome? (I do almost every time.) Let’s take that journey together and make this Goodwill find over! P.S. Catch the repay HERE

What you’ll need:

  • Goodwill Find (statue, vase, jar etc.)
  • Decoupage Queen Rice Papers (Get it HERE)
  • Diamond Dust (Get it HERE)
  • Hot Glue (Get it HERE) & Hot Glue Gun
  • White Chalk Paint
  • Dazzled Bling (Get yours HERE)
  • Paint Brush
  • Matte Mod Podge
  • Heat Gun (Get it HERE) optional
  • Dark Wax (Bher Dark Wax)
  • Wax Brush and lint free cloth

Two coats

To start make sure your piece is clean, Next add a coat of white chalk paint, and dry well.

Finally, add a second coat to get a full coverage. You’ll want a full coverage to get the best result for your decoupage papers.

Decoupage Time

Start by taking your paper and using water to get a natural looking tear. (Run a wet paintbrush in the directions you would like your tear then simply rip along the wet line)

Begin by adding Mod Podge over your piece and placing your rice paper down. Next coat the top of your paper with the Mod Podge, continue this step until you cover your desired area.

Finally, take your heat gun and dry your Mod Podge.

Wax on Wax off

Begin this step by taking your dark wax and working in sections on your piece. Work your way over the piece then wipe away the excess.

This will give your Goodwill find definition and character.

Diamond dust

Next add that sparkle, take your Mod Podge and cover your whole piece. While the Mod Podge is wet sprinkle on your Diamond Dust, go as heavy or as light as you would like.

Don’t worry about it being cloudy as it will clear up when it dries.

Add your flair

Last but not least, add your bling. I chose this piece from Dazzled bling. I removed the back broach clip and hot glued to the front of my Goodwill Piece.
