Upcycled Goodwill Tissue Box

DIY

16 Mar

Whimsical, that is how I would describe this tissue box. This Goodwill find was upcycled live over on my Facebook Page HERE.

I love being able to turn something ordinary into extraordinary, join me as we do just that!

YOU’LL NEED:

  • Tissue Box Ornate (Goodwill)
  • White Chalk Paint
  • Black Paint
  • Rub n Buff Antique Gold
  • Liquid Gold Leif
  • Hot Glue (Get it HERE) & Hot Glue Gun
  • Dazzled Bling (Get yours HERE)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Ruler
  • Heat Gun (Get it HERE) optional
  • E6000 if needed
  • Light and Dark Wax by Bher
  • Wax Brush

Let’s get Started

Start by cleaning your tissue box well. Next, paint one to two coats of white chalk style paint over the entire thing.

MEasure it twice

Start by measuring out the area you will do the checkered pattern. Pencil it onto your box, double check your measurements to get the right sized boxes.

Paint your pattern

Taking your black paint you will create your pattern. Begin by painting the black onto your premeasured spaces. A little goes a long way, so don’t overload your brush.

Wax on and off

Start by taking your clear wax and mixing it with your dark wax, then applying it the surface of your entire box. Next wipe away the excess with a clean cloth.

Glitter and gold

Start by taking a clean paint brush and dry brushing the gold overtop of your black checks. Next, take your liquid gold leif and the back of your paint brush, and lightly dot the gold between the squares.

Finally, take your Rub n Buff and use your finger to lightly apply over the detailed, raised areas.

Bling it up

I cannot help but add a little bling. Start by choosing some Dazzled Bling pieces that work for your piece. Next, add a little hot glue to the back and adhere it to your piece.

Don’t be afraid to take something outdated and make it your own. I love seeing what you create so don’t forget to tag me in your creations!
